We compiled some FAQs about us and about working as a volunteer in Ukraine.

1. IS THE ROBIN HOOD PROJECT UKRAINE REGISTERED?

Yes! We are a non-profit organization registered in Ukraine under the number 44807115. We are also properly registered at the Ministry of Social Justice (#1297), which allows us to legally invite volunteers and help them apply for a Visa or Temporary Residency Permit.

Our name in Ukrainian is “ПРОЕКТ РОБІН ГУД – УКРАЇНА”.

2. HOW CAN I FIND OUT IF OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ARE PROPERLY REGISTERED?

You can check if an organization is registered in Ukraine by accessing YouControl.

To check if an organization volunteers, check the list by the Ministry of Social Justice. This list is frequently updated.

3. HOW LONG HAS ROBIN HOOD BEEN OPERATING IN UKRAINE?

Our team has been working for Ukraine since the beginning, on February 24th, 2022, as a full-on Brazilian initiative called "Frente Brazucra". Our first day across the border was on February 27th, evacuating three Brazilians, one Ukrainian, and one Nigerian. 

On August 22, we registered as The Robin Hood Project in Ukraine, a Brazilian-Ukrainian-run non-profit.

4. WHAT IS "FRENTE BRAZUCRA"?

Frente Brazucra is the predecessor of The Robin Hood Project. It started on February 22 as a Brazilian-run operation, raising funds, helping with evacuations, logistics, and bringing humanitarian aid into Ukraine. 

It was started by Clara Magalhães Martins, a Brazilian living in Germany at the time of the full-scale invasion. 

5. HOW CAN I DONATE TO THE ROBIN HOOD PROJECT?

On our "Donate" page you can find all ways to donate to our project. We accept PayPal, wire from GBP, euros, dollars, and hryvnias. You can also choose to be a monthly contributor, choosing any amount for monthly donations! 

Frequent donors have access to a series of perks! 

6. CAN I DONATE GOODS AND SERVICES INSTEAD OF MONEY?

Yes, please! We accept donations of goods (especially from around Europe) and services.

7. CAN I VOLUNTEER WITH THE ROBIN HOOD PROJECT UKRAINE?

We post our open volunteer positions on our Join Us page! Please bear in mind that most positions are unpaid and online. 

8. CAN I BUY A ROBIN HOOD PATCH?

Yes, you can, and we encourage you to do it! We will have new products soon to keep on supporting Ukraine!

9. IS ROBIN HOOD'S OPERATION SAFE?

Taking into consideration that we operate in a war zone, we work hard to avoid unnecessary risks or to expose us, our partners, and Ukrainians beyond what is acceptable.

Everybody at The Robin Hood Project Ukraine has received TCCC and HEAT training.

We also have strict security protocols and OPsEC that we follow to a T. 

10. CAN THE ROBIN HOOD PROJECT UA ISSUE ME A VOLUNTEER INVITATION LETTER?

If you work with The Robin Hood Project UA, all paperwork will be provided for you. 

However, we do not issue papers (invitation letters for Visas and/or Temporary Residency Permits) if you are not working with us.

11. CAN I WEAR CAMOUFLAGE/UNIFORM WHILE WORKING WITH ROBIN HOOD?

NO!!

Wearing any type of military or police uniform is forbidden under International and Ukrainian Laws and by our Code of Conduct.

Wearing any of these is instant exclusion from the organization and proper procedure will be established against the individual.

12. DOES ROBIN HOOD WORK WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS?

Absolutely!

Partnering with the right people, those who share the same vision and values, is essential to get the work going! A saying here in Ukraine is that we run on networking and trading. A few of our partners: HUGS - an amazing Canadian operation in Kharkiv; Source of Revival UA - a Kyiv-based Ukrainian organization; Sweden Help East, a Swedish team that makes the best food boxes for Ukraine!

13. HOW LONG WILL ROBIN HOOD OPERATE IN UKRAINE?

Until we claim victory or the war claims us.

1. What are some volunteer opportunities available in Ukraine?

There are many volunteer opportunities available in Ukraine, including teaching English, working with refugees, assisting at animal shelters, and helping with environmental projects.

2. How can I find volunteer opportunities in Ukraine?

You can find volunteer opportunities in Ukraine by researching NPOs, contacting local organizations directly, or checking online volunteer databases. You can also check our Join Us page for Robin Hood UA volunteer opportunities!

3. Are there any age restrictions for volunteering in Ukraine?

It depends on the organization and the type of volunteer work. Some organizations may have age restrictions for safety or liability reasons, while others may welcome volunteers of all ages.

4. Do I need to speak Ukrainian to volunteer in Ukraine?

It depends on the organization and the type of volunteer work. Some organizations may have age restrictions for safety or liability reasons, while others may welcome volunteers of all ages.

5. How many foreign volunteers are in Ukraine?

At least a few hundred foreign volunteers are currently working in Ukraine. Many come for short periods of time, some have been here since the war started, some come over the border to bring supplies and leave.

6. Is it safe to volunteer in Ukraine?

Ukraine is currently at war defending itself from the outrageous Russian invasion. Operating in a warzone comes with several risks and most countries currently discourage their citizens from traveling to Ukraine. It is important to do your research and take precautions to ensure your safety while volunteering.

7. Will I need a visa to volunteer in Ukraine?

It depends on your country of origin and the length of time you plan to volunteer in Ukraine. You should check with the Ukrainian embassy in your country to see what the visa requirements are.

Most volunteers have free entry for 90 days in a period of 180 days and then need to apply for a D-10 visa outside of Ukraine.

8. Can I volunteer remotely for organizations in Ukraine?

Yes, some organizations may have remote volunteer opportunities available, such as online tutoring or fundraising. You should contact the organization directly to see what remote volunteer opportunities they offer. Don't forget to check Robin Hood's opportunities to join the team!

9. How long can I volunteer in Ukraine?

It depends on the organization and the type of volunteer work. Some volunteer opportunities may be short-term, such as a few days or weeks, while others may be longer-term, such as several months or a year. You should check with the organization directly to see what their volunteer duration requirements are.

10. Do I need any special skills or qualifications to volunteer in Ukraine?

It depends on the volunteer opportunity. Some opportunities may require specific skills or qualifications, while others may not. You should check with the organization directly to see what their requirements are.

However, we encourage everyone coming to Ukraine to have at least first aid training, or better yet paired with TCCC and HEAT!

11. Can I wear military/police uniform when I'm volunteering?

NO!!

Wearing any type of military or police uniform is forbidden under International and Ukrainian Laws.

Wearing any of these is instant exclusion from the organization and proper procedure will be established against the individual.

If you want to play soldier, join the army!

12. How can I get into Ukraine? How can I move around Ukraine?

We recommend having your own vehicle. If this is not a possibility, you can come to Ukraine by train, bus, or foot or get a ride from other volunteers!  To travel around Ukraine without a car, you can rely on Ukraine's public transport, especially the train system. You can also download apps such as Bolt and Uber to move around!

13. Can I go near the front?

Different operations cover different areas, some near frontlines. If you don't have proper training or gear, we encourage you to stay far from the frontlines so as to not endanger yourself of the Ukrainians. Remember, this job is NOT about you!

14. Can I buy a car in Ukraine?

You can only legally own a vehicle if you have a Temporary Residence Permit, a Long Residency Permit, a work visa, or other types of permission to live in the country.

15. Can I drive in Ukraine?

I don't know. Can you?

Jokes aside, you might need an International Driver's Permit to legally drive in Ukraine.

Remember: after you get your Temporary Residency Permit, you can only drive for two months. You will have to apply to a Ukrainian driver's license.

16. Can I have a bank account?

If you are a volunteer without a residency permit, the answer is no. Military contracts allow you to open a bank account. Otherwise, only after you have proper residency papers.

17. Do I need protective gear?

It depends on where you work. Having a good IFAK is always recommended, regardless of where you work.

In high-risk areas, you should have your own protective gear: at least good plates and good helmets. Don't let confidence get you killed!

18. Can I take pictures and videos?

You can take photos and videos of a lot of things in Ukraine. This is important to how the horrors of the war and to not let what happens here be forgotten. With that said, many regulations are in place which forbid footage of any type to take place, including barricades and checkpoints, military bases, military positions, and military personnel without authorization.

Ask local authorities if in doubt.
